HIMSS Analytics® today, with the support of the Society of Imaging Informatics in Medicine (SIIM), the European Society of Radiology (ESR), and the European Society of Medical Imaging Informatics (EUSOMII), introduced the Digital Imaging Adoption Model (DIAM) for Enterprise Imaging. The model guides organizations towards a fully digitized imaging IT environment. The DIAM was previously available to assess radiology imaging related IT capabilities and has now been extended to assess and support multiple imaging services across the whole enterprise.
The DIAM is an eight stage model (0 – 7) that provides guidance for imaging and IT experts to assess and benchmark the use of information and technology in medical imaging in order to optimize internal workflows, increase patient safety and improve quality of care. The model includes the key elements needed to successfully and comprehensively implement, deploy and enable Enterprise Imaging capabilities. The optimal use of Enterprise Imaging allows healthcare providers to consistently capture, index, manage, store, distribute, view, exchange, analyze and make full use of all clinical imaging and multimedia content to enhance how the electronic medical record environment supports the clinician’s decision making process.
“HIMSS Analytics and ESR jointly developed the first DIAM model for radiology and introduced it in 2016. It is very gratifying to see that this concept will now be continued for evaluation at the increasingly important level of Enterprise Imaging. The DIAM approach provides excellent guidance for strategic decisions and the recognition of gaps for both users and manufacturers,” said Peter Mildenberger, MD, University Hospital Mainz, Chair of the ESR Subcommittee for Professional Issues and Economics in Radiology.
“Across SIIM leadership, we are excited to see the efforts of our joint community with HIMSS Analytics produce a global model for measuring adoption of Enterprise Imaging. The DIAM will be a critical tool to advance the field of Enterprise Imaging. Moreover, the collaboration that went into producing it is a great example for how informatics can solve the technical challenges we face in healthcare today,” said James Whitfill, MD CIIP, SVP, Chief Transformation Officer HonorHealth & Chair, Society for Imaging Informatics in Medicine.
“Medical imaging is not only a very important medical discipline, it is also one of the most innovative fields from a health informatics perspective. We are very excited to expand the DIAM to provide Enterprise Imaging as a critical component of our HIMSS Analytics Maturity Models portfolio. It does not matter if you are just starting your Enterprise Imaging journey or want to make further improvements, the DIAM is a great tool to further develop an organization-wide digital imaging strategy. The DIAM can also be used in combination with our other Maturity Models to gain valuable insights and recommendations from the departmental, to enterprise, to pan-organizational level perspectives towards successfully mastering the digital transformation of your healthcare organization,” said John H. Daniels, Global Vice President, HIMSS Analytics.
HIMSS Analytics will present the DIAM at the HIMSS Global Conference & Exhibition in Orlando, FL, February 11-15, 2019.
