Throughout Global Health Equity Week, Nov. 11-15, 2024, HIMSS united voices across the health information and technology landscape to create a future of inclusive, accessible healthcare.
Global Health Equity Week is an annual initiative focused on displaying the potential of health information and technology to transform health and support the elimination of health disparities. HIMSS offers solutions to help improve health and wellness for everyone, everywhere.
HIMSS President & CEO Hal Wolf kicked off the week by emphasizing this year’s focus areas and outlining steps everyone can take to support health equity for all.
“Global Health Equity Week is designed to bring focused attention to what is a critical part of the HIMSS vision,” Wolf said. “At HIMSS, our vision is to realize the full health potential of every human, everywhere. Sitting inside that vision statement is the aspirational effort to create a global health ecosystem that delivers on the equity promise. Our mission is to reform the global health ecosystem through the power of information and technology. So between the two, HIMSS is all about health equity, and enabling it.”
Digital health can be a bridge to better outcomes, and this year’s activities focused on areas that create lasting impact: patient identification, maternal health, telehealth, and community wellness.
“Health equity needs to continue to be our north star for why we engage with digital health transformation and focus on the HIMSS vision and mission,” said Tom Leary, HIMSS Senior Vice President & Head of Government Relations, in an interview with Chief Healthcare Executive.
To support workforce development and transition to civilian life for former members of all branches of U.S. military and their spouses, HIMSS launched its new Veterans Community on Veterans Day, Nov. 11. The HIMSS Veterans Community is a dedicated space for veterans that provides education, networking, thought leadership and mentorship opportunities.
HIMSS continues to advocate for maternal health across the U.S., and all are invited to join the effort by writing to representatives and amplifying the need for safer, healthier futures for mothers everywhere.
Many thought-provoking sessions, engaging podcasts and news and announcements throughout the week offered invaluable insights and actionable outcomes to help health and technology professionals bring health equity initiatives to their organizations and communities.
