Meet the Changemakers: Tammy Kwiatkoski

HIMSS serves the global health information and technology communities with focused operations across North America, Europe, the United Kingdom, the Middle East and Asia Pacific. Our members include more than 80,000 individuals, 480 provider organizations, 470 non-profit partners and 650 health services organizations. The HIMSS staff is made up of changemakers who collaborate with members to reform the global health ecosystem through the power of information and technology.

Tammy Kwiatkoski is Director of Clinical Informatics at HIMSS.

How long have you been at HIMSS?

I have been with HIMSS for just over 9 years, it will be 10 years in March 2021. I was hired initially as Senior Manager, Chapters, and promoted to Director, Clinical Informatics.

How do you support our mission statement?

I provide the oversight of HIMSS clinical informatics initiatives, collaborations, goals, strategies, resources, research, strategic relationships and related membership activities with HIMSS. My team and I manage the clinical informatics communities and initiatives of the HIMSS Nursing Informatics Community and the HIMSS Physician Community and the alignment with external partnerships including the Alliance for Nursing Informatics (ANI), the HIMSS-SIIM Enterprise Imaging Community and the Health Technology Alliance. We also produce the Online Journal of Nursing Informatics (OJNI) a peer reviewed publication.

How do you know your work at HIMSS makes a difference?

The most rewarding part of my job is working with volunteers and bringing their ideas and subject matter expertise to our members. When volunteers thank us for supporting them, when attendees thank us for the webinar and great content, and when we see great relationships made from our networking events such as HIMSS Global Conference, I know that our team has made a difference. Additionally, when former volunteers seek out other opportunities, I know that I have helped make their experience with HIMSS a positive one.

What’s one thing you wish everyone knew about the work you do at HIMSS?

I love working with our volunteers and appreciate their time, talent and expertise serving our communities. Our communities are there to welcome members and provide a forum to exchange ideas and discuss challenges and solutions. I am truly humbled when I am sitting at the table with such incredible industry thought leaders and sometimes pinch myself to prove it’s real. In addition, I work with the most talented, intelligent, dedicated and amazing colleagues!
