Ochsner Health was named a 2018 HIMSS Davies Enterprise Award recipient for leveraging the value of health information and technology to improve outcomes, as evidenced in three use case submissions below. Topics covered include the implementation of digital medicine solutions for pregnancy, diabetes, and hypertension, addressing the opioid epidemic through improved prescribing practices and their successful transition to value-based care which led to the resolution of nearly 50,000 gaps in care.
Ochsner leveraged tools in their EHR to get a more robust personal and social history to help understand their patients through three digital medicine solutions focused on hypertension, pregnancy and diabetes – all of which displayed impressive results following implementation.
Ochsner has maintained a focus on combating the opioid epidemic by utilizing their EHR to provide prescription data to emergency department physicians, substantially reducing prescribing rates. In addition, they integrated an opioid risk tool and a Morphine Equivalent Daily Dose calculator to aid providers in understanding opioid potency.
